Abstract

1,105,898. Centrifugal strainer / separator. MICHIGAN DYNAMICS Inc. 3 Oct., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 44124/66. Headings B1D and B2P. A centrifugal strainer comprises a solid bowl centrifuge stage having a sediment trap 58 behind a louvred screen 57, an inward flow filtering screen 62 of frusto-conical shape and a by-pass valve 70 .. 77, which is operated by excess pressure to by-pass the screen 62. The housing is in two parts 12, 13, clamped together at 14, part 13 being mounted on a motor which drives shaft 22 and the assembly 27. Fluid is pumped by an external pump through inlet 24 and flows along passage 53, which may have additional impeller blades therein, radial passages 56 into annular cavity 33, in which heavy solids are separated out and enter annular trap 58, and passes inwards through screen 62 to openings 57' and thence to outlet 25. By-pass apertures 71 open from passages 56 into 'the space enclosed by shell 45, communicating with outlets 57', and are closed by a spring loaded annular gasket plate 73 which moves axially when pressure across screen 62 builds up. The apparatus is dismantled for cleaning.
