Abstract

Soap contains as a perfume ingredient a compound of formula <FORM:1105455/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 is H or Me, R2 is Me or Et and A is a benzene or cyclohexane ring.ALSO:Compounds of formula <FORM:1105455/C2/1> wherein R1 is H or Me, R2 is Me or Et and A is a benzene or cyclohexane ring, are prepared by standard procedures involving Grignard reactions, oxidation and/or reduction. The compounds 2 - methyl - 2 - phenylheptanone - 4, 2 - methyl - 2 - phenylhexanone - 4 and 2 - methyl - 2 - (4 - methylcyclohexyl)hexanone - 4, are claimed per se. Grignard reagents are prepared by reacting 1 - chloro - 2 - methyl - 2 - phenylpropane or 1 - chloro - 2 - methyl - 2 - (4 - methylphenyl) propane with Mg in ethyl n-butyl ether.ALSO:Perfume, odorant or flavour compositions contain compounds of formula <FORM:1105455/A5-A6/1> wherein R1 is H or Me, R2 is Me or Et and A is a benzene or cyclohexane ring.
