Abstract

1,104,986. Testing timber. H. E. BOOTH and A. ANTON. March 11, 1965 [March 11, 1964; Jan. 11, 1965], No. 10366/65. Heading G1S. In apparatus for testing and grading the strength of timber, the timber is fed through the apparatus between rollers 2, 3, 4 and deflected by an air actuated loading roller 7 at predetermined intervals. The amount of deflection of the timber is detected by a lever 10 which actuates a micro-switch system to operate devices 12 which spray colour on to the timber depending upon its grading. A further wheel assembly 16 is provided to determine the shape of the timber, movement of the wheel being detected by a series of photo-cells as the timber passes through the apparatus.
