Abstract

1,104,791. Cathode-ray tube circuits. MULLARD Ltd. 27 Nov., 1964 [27 Aug., 1963], No. 33875/63. Heading H4T. Relates to an electromagnetic frame deflection circuit for a cathode-ray tube (C.R.T.) with a rectangular raster, comprising deflection coils Lc and a transductor TD with a control winding Lw fed from a line-frequency signal source for varying the deflection current in coils Lc so as to effect " north-south " raster correction. According to the invention the transductor has a main winding Lv on its saturable core connected in parallel with coils Lc, means Ldc for biasing the core at an operating point within a substantially linear part of the transductor permeability characteristic, the signals fed to winding Lw have a substantially symmetrical curved waveform and constant amplitude, and a paralleltuned circuit A tuned substantially to the line frequency is inserted between the frame deflection current source and the parallel combination of coils Lv, Lc. The frame frequency current Ic amplitude-modulation envelope is linear, Fig. 2 (not shown). The C.R.T. may be a wide deflection angle monochrome, or a colour television " shadow-mask," tube. A second circuit, B, tuned to the line frequency, reflects a high impedance across winding Lw and the line frequency current in the latter is of sinusoidal form. The line frequency signal is taken from conventional boost capacitor Cb. A necessary 90 degrees phase-shift correction is afforded by network Rpl, Rp2, Rp3, Cp. The amplitude of modulation current is adjustable by resistors Rv, Rw. For greater transductor efficiency winding Lw may be series-tuned by a capacitor and that tuned circuit is driven by voltage fly-back pulses from a separate winding on the line output transformer, Fig. 7 (not shown).
