Abstract
A process for the manufacture of hydrogen peroxide as in the parent Specification 1,070,911, wherein the molar ratio of anthraquinone disulphonate to hydrosulphide ion is at least 2.3 : 1 and the pH is in the range 7.0 to 8.5. The pH is controlled by a buffer consisting of a mixture of boric acid and sodium tetraborate, or by the addition of sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, or hydrogen sulphide. The hydrogen peroxide is recovered from the solution as calcium peroxide by adding calcium hydroxide to the solution after reduction and prior to oxidation and maintaining a pH of 10 to 12.6 during oxidation. The process is carried out at 20 DEG to 30 DEG C. and the salts of the anthraquinone disulphonic acids purified by passage through a cation exchange resin before use.
