Abstract

110,395. Richards, G., and Beaumont, W. W. Oct. 8, 1916. Milling screws.-Threads are milled internally by a hob of a diameter not exceeding about one half the diameter of the bore. The work u and the hoh j, Fig. 4, rotate at the same angular velocity in the same direction and the teeth of the hob are arranged reversely to its direction of rotation. The hob is carried by a compound rest k, Fig. 2, and is driven through splined shafts and worm-gear m and bevel-gear r. The synchrenous rotation of the hob and work imparted by the gear trains m, r, and c is distributed by reciprocating the worm on its spline, by a hand-lever w, engaging between collars on the worm, in order to avoid the production of facets. Milling-cutters.-The hob may be combined with a clearance cutter z, Fig. 5, and facing cutter y. Specifications 10647/15 and 16679/15 are referred to.
