Abstract

1,103,779. Resuscitator valve. GLOBE SAFETY PRODUCTS Inc. 20 Dec., 1965, No. 53907/65. Heading A5T. A resuscitator valve for use with a respiratory system and constructed to avoid deposition of excretal matter on the operating parts and in the passageways, comprises a valve housing 42 having a chamber, 18 therein with one wall thereof being formed by a pressuresensitive means (such as a diaphragm 21), a valve member (such as shutter 20) and operating means therefor (such as shaft 24, springs 25, 26 and magnets 34, 46) connected (via actuator 62 and arm 64) to said pressure sensitive means, a conduit 14 interconnecting said chamber with a respiratory system, an aspirator assembly (such as venturi orifice 17 and venturi outlet 19) including an inlet 16 and located within the chamber, the valve being characterized in that the aspirator assembly and the conduit are so juxtapositioned with respect to one another that the valve operating means and the inlet passage are located out of the path between the aspirator assembly and the conduit. An inhalator control (sleeve 70 and part 72) may be included for use when a patient starts to breathe of his own volition. False operation of the apparatus is avoided by correct construction of the diaphragm, springs and back-up plate 80, by the use of a fluid damper 82, by the incorporation of a quick-acting relief valve 92, or by the use of an inertial weight 102.
