Abstract
1,103,648. Colour television. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE TELEVISION. 26 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 42954/66. Heading H4F. To magnetically record on a single track a colour television video signal comprising a luminance signal and a sub-carrier frequency modulated by colour signals, e.g. a " SECAM " (Registered Trade Mark) type signal, the video signal is separated into two signals H and L by means of high- and low-pass filters, signal H including at least the modulated sub-carrier and signal L at least the low-frequency components of the luminance signal, and the two signals are combined and passed to a magnetic writing device after signal L has either frequency modulated a wave or has been attenuated to produce a signal L<SP>1</SP>. In the embodiments described signal L extends from 0 to 2 Mc/s. and signal H from 3.5 to 5.5 Mc/s., the video signal comprising a 5À5 Mc/s. luminance signal and a colour subcarrier extending from 3.5 to 4.8 Mc/s. In the embodiment in which signal L<SP>1</SP> comprises a wave frequency-modulated by signal L, the frequency band of signal L<SP>1</SP> comprises 0À2 Mc/s. to 3.3 Mc/s., the frequency modulating means including an output filter. The output of the magnetic recording device is passed to two filters having pass-bands corresponding to signals H and L<SP>1</SP> and the two resulting signals are combined after signal L<SP>1</SP> has been frequency demodulated. Since the reproduced luminance signal has suffered a loss of definition the output signal of the frequency demodulator may be crispened through differentiation of the signal. If the sub-carrier in the input video signal was submitted to a filtering in a coding filter the high-pass filters preferably include a decoding and a coding filter. In the second embodiment in which signal L<SP>1</SP> comprises an attenuated signal L, the subcarrier included in signal H acts as an auxiliary high-frequency bias oscillation, since as is known one method of recording low-frequency components comprises adding to this signal a bias sinusoidal voltage. Instead of attenuating signal L signal H may be amplified. The circuits preferably include a band rejection filter for the frequency band separating the bands of signals L and H.
