Abstract
1,103,136. Photo-electric particle detection. PYROTECTOR Inc. April 7, 1966 [April 28, 1965] No. 15507/66. Heading G1A. Smoke particles contained in air circulating through a chamber 24 are detected as they scatter light on to a photo-resistor 16 from a beam projected across the chamber from a neon lamp 14. The gas-filled envelope of the lamp contains elongated electrodes and the light beam emanates from the plane end-face of the envelope which has been found not to become coated with electrode metal when the lamp ages as the side-walls do. The lens 40, in front of the detector, provides a narrow field of view for the detector which passes through the projected beam. Shields 42 and 44 prevent light reflected off the light guide 32 and light trap 34 respectively, from impinging on the detector. Air enters the chamber by passing under the top and bottom covering plates 12 supported upon lugs projecting from the top and bottom of the wall 18.
