Abstract
1313296 X-ray apparatus PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 July 1970 [22 May 1969] 26221/69 Heading H5R X-ray apparatus having means for providing a visual indication of the area of incidence of an X-ray beam on a patient includes, within the housing 25 of the apparatus, an incandescent filament lamp 21 and a concave mirror 24 arranged to focus on image of the filament such that it extends over an aperture 23 in an optically opaque partition 22 and is subsequently reflected by an X-ray transparent mirror 10 arranged in the path of the X-ray beam, such that the light appears to originate from a source coincident with the X-ray source 1, the X-ray and light beams then passing through an adjustable aperture in an X-ray opaque diaphragm 3. The optical shadow of a system of crossed, X-ray opaque, parallel wires arranged in the path of the X-ray beam to permit exact location of an irradiated area of interest is rendered more readily visible, without affecting its X-ray shadow, by providing the wires with optically opaque, X-ray transparent, plastics sleeves or tapes. A low voltage tungsten halide lamp may be employed, and may have an additional mirror arranged at its back to increase the luminous efficiency.
