[Also in Division D1] A machine for removing bobbins from trays comprises means to feed the loaded trays to a position where fork tines, entering slots in a tray, engage beneath a leading row of bobbins and rise to remove the row. The trays have slots 87 leading into the longitudinal rows of compartments, each of which is shaped to hold a bobbin upright and the tines 97 engage each transverse row in turn as the trays are advanced intermittently. The trays move by gravity on a roller-way 89 and are halted by the leading bobbins 42 engaging the bases 98 of slotted shoots 90 leading to a platform 102. The tines 97 are caused to follow a path 127, 128 by cam and linkage means so that the bobbins are raised to the level of the platform 102 and drawn along it into compartments 106 by projections 119 on the tine ends which enter the bobbin cores. Each compartment has a pair of swing gates 107 through which pusher bars 196 force the bobbins into pockets 46 on an endless conveyer 47. Prior to each row being lifted from a tray, the tray is given a rearwards movement by reciprocating fingers 159, so that the bobbins are spaced from the ends of the shoots. Release of a solenoid-operated latch 145 allows the fork to idle along the path 128. Conveyer.-The conveyer has a series of channel members 182 forming the pockets and each mounted on a carriage 184 guided by rollers 187, 191. A chain 72 carries the pockets round a triangular course, Fig. 1 (not shown), at one point in which, the platform 102 on which the ends of the bobbins in the pockets slide, is gapped to permit gravity discharge.
