Abstract

N,N1 - diacyl - bis - caprolactams of the formula <FORM:1102522/C3/1> where R is (CH2)n and n is at least 5 are used as activators in the alkaline polymerization of lactams. The process of Specification 1,063,292 which uses such activators wherein n is at least 6 in conjunction with a polyamine or polyol is disclaimed. In examples the effectiveness of the activators in the polymerization of caprolactam is compared with that of similar compounds where n is less than 5. The actuators may be prepared as described in Specification 1,102,521.
