Abstract

1,102,413. Digital tachometers; counters. V. A. ILJASHEVSKY, and N. N. CHERNOV. 14 April, 1965, No. 16105/65. Headings G4D and G4H. A photo-electrically-sensed perforated, disc produces pulses at a frequency proportional to the speed of rotation of a shaft, these pulses are fed to a pentode gate which is opened for a selected period of 1, 2 or 3 seconds and the pulses passed by the gate are counted in a five decade counter. Each decade comprises six vacuum tubes counting 2x5. A two decade mechanical counter is stepped once for each measurement and has a pair of decimal commutators providing an electrical indication of the measurement number. The outputs of the counters are serialized by stepping switches and fed to a printer. The output of the five-decade counter is also fed to a neon tube indicator. Detailed circuits are described. The mechanical counter. Fig. 5, is actuated by an electromagnet 50 linked to pawls 51, 52. Pawl 51 actuates the units ratchet wheel 43. The tens ratchet wheel 45 and gear 46 are freely rotatable on shaft 42, pawl 52 only engaging wheel 45 when it drops into the slot of disc 44 after multiples of ten pulses have been counted.
