Abstract

1,101,751. Vacuum chambers. BIR-VAC Ltd. Feb. 1, 1966 [Feb. 1, 1966], No.4375/65. Heading F1X. A pump 3, Fig. 2, is movable relatively to chambers 1 for connection thereto in a predetermined order by means of retractable duct means 6 provided on the pump or on the chambers. The vacuum chambers 1 e.g. for metallizing, degassing, drying or melting, are successively evacuated by the pump 3 which is movable on a track 5, the vacuum being maintained by smaller pumps 2 after the closing of a valve in port 7. The valve and/or track 5 may be omitted. Pump 3 may comprise a mechanical vacuum pump and a mechanical or vapour booster pump.
