An attachment A to be mounted at the edge of a file has a longitudinal bore 1 therein, which may be of any crosssectional shape, to receive an indicator or index signal. b having a peg portion 3 which is a push-fit in the bore. As shown, the peg 3 and bore 1 are cylindrical in cross-section, and the bore has opposed slits 2 leading to the sides of the. part A. Pegs and bores of square, cruciform, and irregular cross-section are also described and shown (Figs. 7-17). The signal b may have a circular frame 4 in which are fitted two opposed indicator members 6 of coloured plastics material. Two signals having complementary pegs can be fitted in a single bore (Fig. 17). The frame 4 can be replaced by a head portion which is solid and of square or other cross-section, each face being differently coloured, or having a coloured tab applied thereto.
