Abstract
N-Ethoxymethyl-acrylamide is copolymerized with N-vinyl pyrrolidone, acryloyl morpholine, methyl acrylate or vinyl acetate in iso-propanol or in methanol using H2O2L-ascorbic acid or azobis-iso-butyronitrile as catalyst. When the aqueous solvent is used the product is separated by dialysis using a "Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark) diaphragm. Copolymers of N-ethoxymethyl-acrylamide with acrylamide or N - morpholinomethyl - acrylamide are also disclosed.ALSO:Compounds of the formula CH2=CR1-CONHCH2OR2, wherein R1 is H or CH3 and R2 is alkyl of 1-3 C atoms, are prepared by reacting CH2=CR1-CONH2CH2OH with R2OH, in the presence of conc. HCl, at 45-50 DEG C. with stirring for 4 hours, neutralizing the soln. with Na2CO3, cooling and filtering, distilling off excess R2OH from the filtrate, adding a hydroquinone as a polymerization inhibitor, and distilling off the product under vacuum.
