Abstract

A spacer for separating the parallel glass panes of a double glazing unit consists of an alloy containing 90% or more by weight of lead, the balance comprising one or more of the elements Bi Sn, Si and Cd and optionally Cu and/or Ca. Examples given are (1) Pb-98%, Sn 1.2%; Sb 0.8%; (2) Pb 99.2%; Sb 0.5%; Cd 0.3%; (3) Pb 96%; Sn 3.7%; Bi 0.3%; (4) Pb 93.5%; Sn 5.7%; Bi 0.8%.
