In a sewing machine clamp feed, a work holder and a sewing template are both connected to a displaceable member of the feed control means. A work holder 4, as described in Specification 1,100,509, and which comprises plates 5 and 6 clamped by permanent magnets upon a workpiece 8 in the form of a pair of glove blanks, is provided with lugs 9, 10, 11 having ball ends 12. The latter are engaged with notches 13 in bars 14, 15, 16 hinged at 18 to a bar 17 of inverted U-shape which is displaceably mounted on a bar 24 also of inverted U-shape. The bars 14, 15, 16 are biased to the horizontal against abutments 20 on bar 17 by springs 19. Bar 17 is made from non-magnetic material but carries an internal ferrous strip 23 which rests upon roller permanent magnets 25 which are journalled within bar 24 and project through apertures in the upper wall thereof. Rollers 30, journalled within bar 24, project through apertures in the side walls thereof to engage the side walls of bar 17. The ends of bar 24 carry respective plates 34, 35 which pass through respective slots 36, 37 formed in a table top 1 at right angles to bar 24, and are displaceably mounted in ball races (38) provided under the table top. Bar 17 is connected by bars 39, 40 to a sewing template 41 engaged by driven wheels 42 for moving the work holder past the needle of a sewing machine 2 mounted on table top 1. A cam finger 46 on the sewing machine is adapted to raise the bars 16, 15, 14 in succession from the respective ball ends 12 during the sewing of the final side of the workpiece.
