Abstract
1,100,445. Producing radiator nests; brazing. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON. 1 April, 1965 [17 April, 1964; 24 June, 1964], No. 13950/65. Heading B3A and B3R. An aluminium radiator nest is produced by preparing a number of elements 1 each formed by two superposed sheets defining chambers 7 joined by ducts 4, the sheets being coated with an aluminium-silicon alloy, assembling the elements into a nest with spacers interposed between adjacent elements, and dipping the nest into a flux bath to join the spacers and elements together. An outer casing and appropriate fittings may be brazed to the nest at the same operation. Passages 2, Fig. 5, are subsequently produced where the chambers 7 of adjacent elements join each other. The elements are conveniently produced by roll bonding two sheets together after coating with an appropriate pattern of stop weld, the chambers and duets being formed by fluid inflation using passages 5. Alternatively, half shells may be stamped for each element, the shells then being soldered or otherwise fastened together. These passages-are fully or partially closed before the dipping takes place, so that flux is unable to enter the chambers 7. The brazing can, if desired, take place in a furnace after the step of coating the nest in a bath, the temperature of the furnace, or alternatively the flux bath where this is used alone, being about 600‹ C. The abutting surfaces of the chambers 7 of adjacent elements can be formed with co-operating annular projections and a ring of aluminium-silicon make up metal may be positioned between the adjacent elements. The passages 2 passing through the elements may be produced by laser beams, an electroerosion process or by conventional machining.
