Abstract
1,100,330. Meshing screw pumps, motors and meters. IMO - INDUSTRI A. B. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 12, 1965], No. 1543/66. Heading F1F. A hydraulic meshing screw pump, motor or meter comprising a power screw and at least one, idler screw rotatable in a casing, includes a support member secured to the power screw on that end adjacent to the driving or driven shaft to extend over the adjacent end of the or each idler screw to restrict relative longitudinal displacement between the power screw and the or each idler screw. Described operating as a pump, a power screw 1, Fig. 1 co-operating with idler screws 2, 3 to pump liquid from an inlet chamber 5 to an outlet chamber 6, has secured to its end adjacent a driving shaft 11, a support member 15 which extends over the ends of the idler screws 2, 3. The face of the member 15 remote from the screws co-operates with a sealing sleeve 16 which is urged by a spring 17 and discharge pressure acting on a shoulder 18 into sealing contact with the member 15. The area of the shoulder 18 and of the area between the shoulder and the periphery of the member 15 are substantially equal so that the pressures acting on these areas are substantially equal. Another embodiment is described in which a hollow shaft is formed with a flange adjacent the screws with the outer end of the shaft connected to the driving shaft and the inner end to a spigot on the end of the power screw.
