Abstract

1,100,329. Transistor blocking oscillator circuits. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 13 Oct., 1966 [24 Dec., 1965], No. 54858/65. Heading H3T. The off period of a blocking oscillator is determined by a timing capacitor 14 in the base circuit of a transistor 17 which conducts during the on periods of the oscillator, the transistor emitter current being maintained substantially constant during the on periods so that as the collector current rises the base current decreases until a point is reached at which the transistor turns off. When the transistor is turned off, capacitor 14 charges through resistor 13 until the transistor conducts again, when constant emitter current is maintained due to current through resistance 24 causing the emitter potential to rise. The diode 16 clips the voltage at the junction of resistance 15 and winding 18 and so gives the circuit more predictable characteristics. The diode 22 protects the base-emitter junction and could alternatively be placed between the base and winding 18.
