An alloy, suitable for use as a master alloy for adding Ti and Nb to steels, comprises:- .Ti.25-50% .Nb.5-25% .Al.1-10% .Si.1-5% .C.up to 0.5% the remainder, apart from impurities and incidental elements, being iron.
