Abstract
Basic chlorides of aluminium and/or chromium containing combined alcohol either as an alkoxide group or as co-ordinated alcohol, the alcohol being a primary aliphatic alcohol containing up to 4 carbon atoms, and combined water either as co-ordinated water or hydroxyl, are stated to be polymeric. They may be made by reacting aluminium and/or chromium chloride with a C1-C4 alcohol or alcohol/water mixture and thermally condensing the product. Alternatively, they may be made either by reacting aluminium and/or chromium chloride with aluminium and/or chromium in a C1-C4 alcohol/water optionally followed by thermal condensation or by reacting an aluminium and/or chromium alkoxide with aluminium and/or chromium chloride in a C1-C4 alcohol and thermally condensing the product.ALSO:The invention comprises basic chlorides of aluminium and/or chromium containing combined alcohol either as alkoxide group or as co-ordinated alcohol, the alcohol being a primary aliphatic alcohol containing 1-4 carbon atoms, and combined water either as co-ordinated water or hydroxyl. These compounds may be prepared (a) by reacting aluminium and/or chromium chloride with a C1-C4 alcohol or alcohol/water mixture and thermally condensing the product; (b) by reacting aluminium and/or chromium chloride with aluminium and/or chromium in a C1-C4 alcohol/water mixture with or without thermal condensation of the product; or (c) by reacting an aluminium and/or chromium alkoxide with aluminium and/or chromium chloride in a C1-C4 alcohol and thermally condensing the product.
