An apparatus for sampling granular material, such as ore, comprises two delivery shoots 10, 11 so that material being sampled flows through both of them under the action of gravity, a pneumatic ram 13, 15 for moving the shoot 10 relative to the shoot 11 in order to bring them into and out of register during predetermined time intervals, a conveyer 21 for regularly feeding the shoot 10 with the material and a collector 24 for the material flowing from the shoot 10 when both shoots are out of register. The air for the ram is controlled by a solenoidactuated valve which is operated by means of a timer. The inlet to the shoot is varied in size by means of flaps 26 opened or closed via a screw- and-nut device 27, 28.
