Abstract

1,097,765. Rotary pumps. WADDINGTON & DUVAL (HOLDINGS) Ltd. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 6, 1964], No.552/64. Heading F1F. In a rotary pump of the flexible-tube type, a pair of tubes 6 adjacent the lowermost surfaces 8 of two heavy vertically-movable platforms 10 are periodically and sequentially squeezed by a plurality of rollers 20 so as to effect a peristaltic pumping-action, there being two sets of such rollers fixed on either side of a plate 32 attached to a rotatable driving-shaft 28 that is coupled to an electric motor 30. Each set of rollers is aligned with one of the platforms 10 and engages with the corresponding tube 6, the positions of the rollers in each set relative to the axis of rotation of the plate 32 being adjustable so as to vary the rate of flow of fluid in the associated tube. The rollers in each set are supported by spindles 22 lodged in radial slots (not shown) within the plate 32 and engaged by arcuate slots 24 in a rotatable disc 26 on the corresponding side of said plate so that the radial distances of the rollers from the axis of rotation of the plate 32 are identical. The spindles 22 are locked relative to the plate 32 by screws 34. Each platform is connected to the casing 12 of the pump by two pivoted parallel-links 14. Alternatively, each tube is located above a platform (not shown), which is biased upwardly towards the rollers by either a spring or a weighted lever system.
