Abstract

A pigment composition comprises a pigment (a) intimately incorporated with a derivative of an organic pigment (b) wherein one or more secondary or tertiary amino groups is or are attached indirectly to the organic pigment residue and with an amine (c) containing at least 8 carbon atoms. Pigment (a) may be TiO2, carbon black, iron oxide, prussian blue, an azo, anthraquinone or quinacridone pigment and particularly phthalocyanines such as copper pc and its halogeno derivatives. The organic pigment derivative (b) may be obtained by reacting halogeno-alkyl organic pigment derivatives with primary or secondary amines, with sulphon (amino alkyl) amides or with alkali metal salts of aminoalcohols. Derivatives of dibenzanthrone, quinacridone, azobenzene, and phthalocyanine are disclosed. The amine may be octylamine, N-dodecyl-b -aminobutyric acid, N-dodecylpropylenediamine or N-dodecylmorpholine. Suitable quantities to 100% pigment (a) are up to 100%, preferably 10-35% of each of derivative (b) and amine (c) by weight. The compositions are easily dispersible into organic media such as a solution of Zn or Zn/Ca rosinate in toluene for use as printing inks, the particle size being, e.g. less than 10 microns.
