Abstract

Apparatus for distributing fertilizer, grain or like granular material comprises at least one hopper having a bottom discharge outlet communicating with a duct or channel 11 along which the material is discharged by fan or like air blower means 6 which also serves to pressurize the upper part of the hopper, means being provided for controlling the rate of discharge from the hopper into the duct. As described the hopper is subdivided into three compartments 1A, 1B, 1C and the duct 11 into two upper transfer ducts 22 and a lower discharge duct 20, the ducts 22 communicating with the compartments 1A, 1B, 1C through staggered openings 24 and with the discharge duct 20 through openings 26. A chain scraper conveyer 27 moves in ducts 22 so that the material moves in the paths shown in Fig. 3. Vertically adjustable gates 25 control the rates of discharge from the compartments 1A-C. The duct 20 feeds into a vertical pipe 17 which communicates, via flexible pipes 16, with coulters 15 arranged on a pair of booms 12 mounted laterally across the back of the apparatus by means of parallel linkage 13. The booms are detachably hinged together so that they can be swung into longitudinal positions alongside the body of the apparatus to reduce the width thereof for transport purposes. The blower 6 may be driven from the tractor power shaft and the conveyer 27 from a ground wheel 3 or its axle.
