Abstract

1,097,016. Baling presses. FLETCHER & STEWART Ltd. June 21, 1965 [June 30,1964]. No. 27051/64. Heading B5F. A baling press comprises a compression box 1 which can be moved, e.g. by pneumatic or hydraulic rams 22a, to a position clear of the material while the material is retained in its compressed state, so that strapping of the material is facilitated. As shown, the press comprises two boxes 1, 2 rotatable about a column 5 so that one box can be filled while material in the other box is being compressed. Rotation is effected by two double-acting rams 6 connected by a chain 7 passing round a sprocket 8. The material is pre-compacted by a trampler 10 and compressed by a main press ram 14. Spring- biased pivoted fingers (11), Fig. 2 (not shown), for holding the trampled material down, are received in grooves or slots (13a) in the trampler. Modifications.-The press may alternatively have one, three or four press boxes. The press may be upstroking instead of downstroking. Instead of the rams 22a, a screw, toggle or lever gear may be used for moving the box 1 clear of the compressed material.
