Abstract
109,629. Gledhill, A. H. June 21, 1916. Counters with snap action; transfer mechanism. -In means for converting reciprocating into intermittent rotary motion, specially applicable to the time-type actuating mechanism of workmen's time-recorders, an arm a raised slowly and lowered quickly by a snail cam a<1> and spring a<2> or by a connecting-rod &c. carries a pinion A gearing with a driven pinion B. Detents a<3>, b<1>, coacting with the pinions A, B are so controlled by a projection a<5> and recess b<2> in a disk C turning with the cam a<1> that during the rise of the arm a the pinion B is locked and the pinion A rotates idly, and during the fall of the arm the pinion A is locked and rotates the pinion B, forcing the detent b<1> into the recess b<2>. The pivot of the arm a may be concentric with the pinion B. As applied to a time-recorder, Fig. 4, the minute-wheel D drives the hour-wheel E by any known means and is secured to a pinion d rotating a spindle f<1> once in twelve hours. The spindle f<1> carries the cam a' and the pinion B is secured to the day-wheel F, which is advanced twice a day to change from vertical to horizontal lettering.
