Abstract

1,095,481. Viscosimeters; measuring viscosity electrically. MONSANTO CO. Jan. 17, 1966 [Jan. 22, 1965], No.2122/66. Headings G1N and G1S. A viscosimeter comprises a passage 20 filled with fluid of a given density, a sensor 26 having a different density disposed in said passage, means 30 for controlling the rate of flow of said fluid so that the sensor is maintained in a given position with respect to the passage, and means 32 responsive to the rate of flow of said fluid for indicating the viscosity thereof. The fluid is pumped upwardly by a pump 22 driven by a motor 24. In the embodiment described the flow sensor 26 is in the form of a steel ball or cylinder and at the given position is mounted a magnetic or electric detector 28 which senses the position of sensor 26 to control the speed of motor 24.
