Abstract

1,095,444. Wrenches. R. H. WILLIAMSON. April 20, 1966 [April 20, 1965], No. 16675/65. Heading B4W. A chain wrench for transmitting torque to the head of a threaded fastener through a socket secured to a knuckle at one end of the chain comprises a length of chain having outer links 2 and inner links 3 connected by pins 4. The torque is transmitted by hand leverage to one end of the chain which is rigid in a line at right angles to that of its line of flexibility. A tubular handle may be slidably connected to one end of the chain. In a modification a universal joint is provided between the handle and the chain, the chain being extended in the line of the bolt and used as a nut spinner, the chain being flexed at right angles to give the desired leverage for final tightening. In another modification the outer links are covered with plastics material.
