1,095,264. Thermal switches; fusible cutouts. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 12, 1965 [March 17, 1964], No. 11165/64. Headings H2B and H2G. A safety device for use in electrically heated appliances comprises an electrically conducting wire link connected in series with a thermostatic switch, on which it is mounted. The wire link is of such dimensions as to offer negligible resistance to the passage of current in the heating circuit but is formed of a material which will melt to break the circuit when it reaches a predetermined temperature which is substantially higher than that at which the thermostatic switch should operate but lower than the temperature at which damage to the appliance would occur. It thus melts and breaks the circuit if the thermostat fails to operate and prevents damage to the appliance.
