Abstract

1,095,064. Variable delay apparatus; delay lines. FERNSEH G.m.b.H. Oct. 5, 1965, No. 42255/65. Headings H3U and H4R. A variable delay apparatus which uses a lumped constant delay line with reverse biased diodes 51 to 58 as the shunt capacitors, the potential across which is varied to vary the capacitance of the diodes and therefore the delay of the line, has variable impedance input and output circuits for the line which are varied by the delay control voltage, or a function thereof, so that the line remains matched to the input and output circuits even though the impedance of the line changes with change in the delay. The input and output circuits may include variable resistors, emitter followers or cathode followers as shown. The control voltage is applied via the input cathode follower from terminal 7. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), each diode is isolated by a capacitor and the biasing voltage is applied to the diodes via individual decoupling resistors.
