Abstract

1,094,531. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. April 26, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 17541/65. Heading B8N. [Also in Division F2] A device 2 for dispensing a measured amount of mercury into an arc tube 6 comprises a reservoir 15 for the mercury 16 adapted to be removably mounted on a machine head 1 carrying the tube and arranged to be movable towards and away from the machine head, means 20 being provided for transferring a predetermined quantity of mercury to the arc tube. The reservoir 15 is mounted in a container 14 secured to a frame 34 adapted to be moved by a ram 29 in order to disengage the end of the container from a seal 31 on a support 12 for the arc lamp 6. A slide 20 is mounted below the reservoir and is formed with a hole 22 for containing a measured quantity of mercury, the slide being moved by electromagnets 27, 28 to bring the hole into or out of alignment with the reservoir and a pipe 23 leading to the tube. When the slide is in the position shown, the measured quantity of mercury is forced by gas pressure into the tube. A number of supports 12 each holding an arc tube are mounted for rotation on a platform 3 and adapted to be brought into alignment with the dispensing device.
