Abstract

1,094,214. Drawing wire. WINGET Ltd. Oct. 29, 1965 [Nov. 20, 1964], No. 47353/64. Heading B3P. A wire drawing block 4 is mounted on a sleeve 3 which is supported by bearings 13 and 14 on a stationary hollow column 2. A fluid coolant enters the hollow block by a pipe 17, which passes through the column 2, and leaves by the annular space between the pipe and the column which leads to an exit duct 27. Attached to the top of the pipe 17 is a distributer 18 which has a dished centre portion 19. Coolant flows to the outer edge of the distributer, down the space between the wall of the distributer and the wall of the drawing block, passes to the inside of the distributer and thence to the exit duct 27. The wire W which is drawn through a die D is also cooled by air which is blown on to the exterior of the block through annular ducts 12. The drive to the block comprises a worm wheel 6 secured to the sleeve 3 and a worm 6. An overhead take-off arrangement may be provided comprising a pulley P mounted on an arm 23 secured to a shaft 22. In a modification the distributer 18 is secured to the shaft 22. When the axis of the block 4 is not vertical the top surface of the dome is shaped to equalise the flow of coolant to the rim of the distributer. The coolant, instead of passing down the annular space between the pipe 17 and the column 2 may pass down a second pipe which is parallel to the pipe 17 and is situated inside the column 2.
