Abstract

1,093,966. Feeding tobacco. TABAKUND INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN DRESDEN VEB. Jan. 11, 1966, No. 1169/66. Heading A2C. A continuous rod of tobacco is formed by entraining tobacco particles in an air stream which compacts the tobacco while both tobacco and air stream travel in a rectilinear direction, in which direction the rod continues to travel after leaving the air stream. Cut tobacco is fed from a conveyer 1 via a shoot 2 and grid 4 into an air stream circulating around pipe system 5a, 5b, 5c and 5d. The tobacco and air stream pass through a series of rotatable baffles 13 of decreasing diameter and around a displaceable member 7. The main stream of tobacco passes into a rotatable collecting nozzle 8 in an expansion space 6 where the tobacco is compacted in a trapping nozzle 9 to form a continuous rod which is led off from discharge position 14. A secondary stream of air and tobacco passes around the pipe 5d and is recirculated. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the member 7 is omitted and is replaced by an inclined rotary disc the edge of which projects into the stream emerging from the baffles 13. The air stream may be heated and humidified for conditioning the cut tobacco.
