1,093,533. Spools; increasing capacity of. K. F. A. ASSHETON. Sept. 25, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963; Oct. 3, 1963], Nos. 38140/63 and 38922/63. Heading B8M. [Also in Divisions G2 and G5] A plate for increasing the holding capacity of a cinematograph film spool, a magnetic tape spool or the like having a central cylindrical drum and two spaced-apart flanges, comprises an annular disc 10, having at least one plane surface, and a groove formed in the inner peripheral edge 12 enabling the plate to be secured to a flange of the spool, the peripheral edge of the flange being located in the groove with the plane surface of the disc and the inwardly facing surface of the flange coplanar. The groove, which is formed in part by an integral rim (15) contacting a rib (20) on the outwardly facing surface of the flange is contoured to match the bevelled edge of the flange, Fig. 4 (not shown). The disc may be provided with a slit 14 extending radially between the inner and outer peripheries. The annular disc, which is preferably made from polystyrene, may be snapped into position or when the flange is provided with a radial slit, the flange may be " screwed " into the groove by means of a keyway 23 cut in the groove.
