Abstract

[Also in Division B7] A mobile irrigation system comprises a conduit 12 provided with a plurality of spaced nozzles 20, said conduit being supported above the ground by means of walking supports 14. Each support includes a pair of substantially vertical legs 30, 32 which are provided with feet 34, 35 and are interconnected by a crank member 58. The upper portions of the legs are mounted on the conduit 12 by a mechanism 36 which is actuated on rotation of the conduit by a chain drive, Fig. 1 (not shown) to produce up-and-down movement of first one and then the other of the legs, coupled with a relative movement of the lower ends of the legs in a direction laterally of the conduit. Each leg 32 is connected to an eccentric portion of the mechanism 36 by a bearing 48 and the eccentric portions of alternate supports are mounted in alignment, Fig. 7 (not shown). Sprinkling may be continued during forward movement of the conduit. In the embodiment of Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the legs are interconnected by a pivoted sleeve, and in the embodiment of Fig. 10 (not shown) the feet are connected by crank members. Figs. 11-18 (not shown) depict aluminium supports (110), (112) in the form of a frame having pads (117) beneath their feet. The crank mechanism (130), Figs. 17 and 18, comprises a pair of spaced crank arms (132) joined by cross bars (134). Rotation of a drive shaft (146) and gears (148) results in the rotation of pinions (140) which engage racks (137) in the arms (132). Stop bars (156) connecting the legs of each support prevent the pinions from climbing the curved portions of the racks so that the crank (150) is tilted up and cover, thus moving the supports relative to each other.
