Abstract

Silicate glasses, resistant to alkali vapour have the following composition in parts by weight:-SiO2 60-62; B2O3 5.5-18; ZrO2 4.5-11; Na2O 0.5-7; CaO 1-8.5; BaO 6-8; K2O 0-8; the total content of Na2O + K2O not being greater than 9 and including a refining agent other than Al2O3 or Sb2O3, the balance, if any, being compatible ingredients. Refining agents mentioned are NaCl 0.2-2.0 parts by weight; 0-0.3 parts by weight of F added as Na2SiF6; or 0-0.8 parts by weight of CeO2.
