Abstract

1,093,250. Dolls. ESTABLISSEMENTS CLO DREY POLYFLEX. Dec. 22, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963; May 26, 1964], No. 52130/64. Heading A6S. A doll is caused to emit sounds when a photoelectric cell 1 thereon is irradiated by visible or infra-red rays. The cell when sufficiently irradiated and when switches 8 and 9 (Fig. 2) are closed causes transistor 5 to be conductive and thus actuate an electro-magnet 7 to close a switch in the circuit of motor 2. The switch-closing electro-magnet may be activated by alternative circuits in which the transistor is omitted (Figs. 7 and 8 not shown) or in which thermistors are additionally provided (Fig. 6, not shown). When the motor is energised it rotates a crank 14 which causes bellows 10 to vibrate reeds 11. The switches 8 and 9 may be located respectively under the dolls hair and inside its mouth and the latter may be resiliently held closed until opened, e.g. by the nipple of a feeding bottle. In another arrangement, a normally closed switch is associated with a pair of eyes 28 (Fig. 9) connected by a transverse bar 29 rigidly connected to a counterweight 30. When the doll is laid down the bar 29 engages an arm 36 of the switch contact 35 and moves the contact away from one of the fixed contacts (33) (Fig. 10 not shown). Alternatively a nipple of a feeding bottle inserted into the doll's mouth engages an arm 37 of the contact 35 to open the switch. The sound producing means may comprise one bellows with two vibrating reeds or a pair of counterweights each carrying a vibrating reed (Fig. 4 not shown).
