Abstract

A weldable corrosion protection priming comprises 8-12 parts by weight of a polyvinyl butyral, 1-6 parts by weight of phenolic resin and 0.1-3 parts by weight of a rust inhibitor, together with a solvent. The phenolic resin is preferably a novolac. The rust inhibitor is preferably pyrogallol or hydroquinone. The composition may also contain an ultra-violet light absorber, e.g. 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone. In the examples the phenolic resin is (1) a cresol-formaldehyde novolac, or (2) a phenol resol.ALSO:Articles of iron and steel are protected against corrosion by a weldable corrosion protection priming which comprises 8-12 parts by weight of polyvinyl butyral, 1-6 parts by weight of phenolic resin and 0.1-3 parts by weight of a rust inhibitor, e.g. pyrogallol or hydroquinone together with a solvent (see Division C3).
