Abstract
1,092,801. Drawing wire; shearing. MARSHALL RICHARDS MACHINE CO. Ltd. March 15, 1965 [March 16, 1964], No. 10960/64. Headings B3P and B3W. In a tube drawing machine a shear 6 is mounted on the drawing block 1, close to the pulling-in dog 4, to cut off the leading end of the tubing at the end of the drawing operation. The shear 6 has a blade 8 which co-operates with an anvil 7, the blade is moved directly by an hydraulic cylinder. Operation of the shear is controlled by a solenoid valve (15), Fig. 5 (not shown), which is arranged to actuate the shear when the solenoid is de-energized. The tubing being drawn forms part of the solenoid circuit, so that when the trailing end of the tubing leaves the die (2) which is mounted in an insulating holder, Fig. 1 (not shown), the solenoid is de-energized. An hydraulic pump (10) operated by compressed air, pumps fluid from a low pressure accumulator (12) to a high pressure accumulator (13) to maintain a supply of pressure-fluid for the shear 6. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the shear operating cylinder is mounted radially in the block and acts on one arm of a bell crank which carries the shear blade on its other arm. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the hydraulic pump is of the rotary type and is chain driven from the block. A pneumatically operated ejector 26 expels the severed end of the tubing from the jaws of the pulling dog.
