Abstract

1,092,190. Washing machines. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Sept. 16, 1966, No. 41552/66. Heading A4F. Apparatus for cleaning louvres of fluorescent lights comprises a washing tank 1 housing a basket 4, an agitator motor 16 capable of agitating the basket, a cleaning liquid tank 26, a rinse liquid tank 27, a pump 40 for transferring either the cleaning liquid or the rinse liquid to the washing tank and a filter 56 for filtering the cleaning liquid. The louvres are placed in the basket 4 which is pivoted by arms 6, 7 attached by pins 17, 8 and 18, 9 to a system of gear wheels. Wheels 12, 13 are rotated by the motor 16 via gear wheels 14, 15. On pressing the agitator motor starter button (61), Fig. 2 (not shown), current is fed to the coil (63) of a timer motor (not shown), the cams of which control microswitches (A<SP>1</SP>-I<SP>1</SP>). The microswitches (A<SP>1</SP>-H<SP>1</SP>) control the operation of magnetic or motorised valves (35-38, 43, 45) so that initially the pump 40 is switched on and a detergent such as "Stergene" (Registered Trade Mark) is pumped from the tank 26 through the line 33, 39, 41, 42 and an inlet 2 to the tank 1. Heaters 28 are disconnected from the electricity supply whilst the pump is running. After the detergent has been transferred, valves 43, 45 are opened and the cleaning liquid is continuously circulated through the centrifuge filter 56. At the end of the washing period, the valve 35 is opened and the valve 43 is closed so that the cleaning liquid is pumped back to the tank 26. The valves 45, 35 are then closed whilst 38, 43 are opened so that rinsing water is pumped from the tank 27 to the tank 1 whereupon the valve 38 is closed and 43, 45 are opened in order to circulate the rinse water. After pumping the rinse water back to the tank 27, the timer stops the agitator. A fan heater 23 supplies hot air through a duct 24 to dry the louvres and the heater 28 warms the tank of cleaning liquid. After a further period of time, the microswitch (I<SP>1</SP>) disconnects the fan heater 23, the heater 28 and the timer coil (63), thus reseting the apparatus for the next cycle. The cleaning liquid may be heated by steam or other hot fluid in pipes or coils passing through the cleaning liquid.
