1,091,723. Production of salt crystals; evaporation of brine. MINISTERUL MINELOR SI ENERGIEI ELECTRICE RUMANIAN. May 26, 1965, No. 22203/65. Heading BIB. Salt crystals are produced from brine by introducing the brine and a warm gas into a mixing vessel 1 where a foam of brine in gas is formed; this foam passes into a separator 2 where the gas, saturated with water-vapour, is disengaged and is discharged from the top of the separator, while fine crystals of salt in brine settle downwards. The suspension flows through pipe 8 into classifier 9, where the brine and fine crystals flow upwards while a suspension of the heavier crystals flows down extractor 11 where it is washed with fresh brine entering through line 12. The suspension flows into thickener 13 which is also supplied with fresh brine through pipe 14. The thin suspension leaving the top of thickener 13 is pumped to vessel 1 together with the brine from the top of classifier 9. The thick suspension flows from the bottom of the thickener 13 into washing device 15, from which the product crystals are withdrawn. The mother liquor from device 15 is pumped to the thickener. The upper layer of foam in separator 2 contains insoluble impurities; this upper layer is evacuated from the separator by steam-ejector 5 and is conveyed to filter 6, from which the impurites are discharged. The filtrate is pumped back to separator 2.
