Abstract

[Also in Division B5] A seat comprising an integral squab 2a and a back rest 2b connected by a hinge portion 5a is made by preheating a thermoplastic cover sheet to 300‹F.-380‹F. and placing it in a mould Fig. 1 (not shown). The cover is drawn to the mould by vacuum forming and filled with polyurethane foam-forming reactants. When the foamed filling is set, the seat is removed from the mould and inverted, as shown, spaced web 4a preventing the squab and back rest portions from bending downwardly out of alignment, while the obtuse angle between adjacent opposed faces 3a permits the chair to be folded to the normal position, Fig. 3 (not shown), and to be attached by pins concealed under a beading 6 to a wooden backing which is subsequently secured to a steel frame 7.
