Abstract

The face of a switchboard in an interconnection system is set out as a plan of the premises with the call indicator lamps and answer keys placed on the plan in positions corresponding to their associated substations. The arrangement allows the switchboard face to be employed as a planning board. As applied to a hospital the switchboard has combined call lamps and answer switches (the lamp being in the press button of the switch), a call flashing the call lamp and lighting a lamp indicating the room from which the call is made. Information, such as the availability of beds and the condition of patients, is set up on the switchboard face by placing appropriately coloured magnetic rings over the call lamp and answer switches. The use of a switchboard as a planning board may be applied to commercial enterprises such as shops and garages.
