Abstract
Monohydroxyalkyl ethers of catechol are prepared by reacting equimolar amounts of molten catechol and a C2- 4 alkylene oxide, in presence of Fe or a salt thereof. The preparation of the 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxypropyl and 2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl monoethers is exemplified.
