Abstract

108,862. Moritz, C. Sandoz-. Aug. 9, 1916, [Convention date]. Turning.-The saddle of a lathe is given a partial rotation about the feed-screw as it is traversed so as to cut taper work. A bed 4 of circular crosssection carries an adjustable tailstock 5 and a saddle 5<1> having slides 7 and 8 to carry the tool 10. The feed-screw 11, Fig. 4, is engaged by a nut 13 having an extension 14 engaging a longitudinal slot 15 in the bed to prevent the nut from rotating, and a transverse slot 16 in the saddle 5<1> which it traverses while allowing partial rotation. A bowl 18 on an arm of the saddle engages a slot 19 in a guide 20 which can be turned about a pivot 21 and secured to fixed sectors 23, Fig. 2, when in adjusted positions, by dogs 25 and nuts 26. When the guide is inclined, the tool follows the generatrix of a cone coaxial with the lathe centres. The inclination of the guide is indicated by one or two scales on the sectors 23.
