Abstract

1,088,535. Photographic materials and preparation of printing plates therefrom. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A. G. Jan. 26, 1965, No. 3313/65. Headings G2C and G2M. A photographic material comprising a silver halide layer 25 to 70 microns thick is coated on a polymeric layer using an adhesion promoter, if required, to join the two layers. This material may be self-supporting or be coated on a polymeric or metal support. Printing plates are produced by exposing the material to a negative, tan developing, removing the unexposed areas of the sensitized layer and washing out the polymeric layer with either a solvent or a swelling agent and mechanical treatment to the desired depth. In the examples, a gelatino silver halide emulsion 40 to 50 microns thick is coated on a polyamide, polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride layer and optionally an aluminium or polyester support and the material is imagewise exposed, tandeveloped, immersed in warm water to remove the polyamide, optionally fixed and then mechanically rubbed in a swelling solvent (ethanol/water) to produce an intaglio plate. The adhesion promoter may be an epoxy resin or a common solvent for sensitized and polymeric layers.
