In dispensing liquid in bulk, e.g. petrol to filling stations, outlets from bulk tanks lead to isolating valves and to a meter via a valve device 22 comprising an inlet chamber 30 having e.g. two rubber ball float valves 50, 52 controlling orifice 40, 42 leading to an outlet chamber 32 whereby as the liquid flow falls off on emptying a tank, first one valve and then the other valve closes and prevents meter inaccuracies due to air flowing through. The inlet chamber may be vented to a point above the tank level or to the meter outlet via an inlet float controlled vent. The valve openings may be of different sizes, the smaller opening having a depending throat 48 entering the outlet chamber and both the valves moving into upstanding throats 44, 46, the throats of the larger openings being higher than those surrounding the smaller openings.
